Date: 23rd June 2005The theme of my artwork is to transform a character’s personality to an opposite personality. E.g. Bart Simpson to a business man.

I used to read the ‘peanuts’ comic and started to have knowledge on snoopy and Charlie brown. I was going to use snoopy as my character. However, I have to do a human character due to the artwork requirements. So I decided to use Charlie brown instead. As for changing Charlie brown’s character. I thought if my influences during my teenage life, so I changed Charlie brown into a stereo – type punk.

My first impression of my finished artwork, that it is a model typical punk, nowadays. While I was making my artwork, I could feel the character coming alive and acting the personality I gave it. This artwork reminds meof the ‘lost’ teenagers around the city. They have no idea what they’re doing and having no achievement in life. Also very conscious about their appearance and attempt to be ‘cool’

The theme of my artwork, ‘transforming the personality of my cartoon character’ reflects the reality of the world. Charlie Brown being such an innocent, slow character turned into a try – hard guy from getting influenced by his friends or media. My artwork can be view in different ways depending how the audiences sees it. Charlie Brown being in a punk version can be seen as Charlie Brown’s growing process.

I try to communicate my ideas to the viewer by changing the clothing and some physical features E.g. Giving him a bit of muscles. Also adding lots of props and details which reflects the punk style. I also added checkered pattern in some of his accessories to show the punk style. Adding sunnies to make him look try – hard and gave him a smirk in his face, which show that he feels proud about himself. Also adding a tattoo on his arm to gives a message that he’s a rebel.

I used clay to create my artwork, since we’re doing a unit of clay. Using clay to create this artwork an advantage as for easier to put details on and to make the artwork more realistic and more alive, it is easier for audiences to understand the message I’m trying to send across to them. Since my artwork is 3D and a lot of details are being added.

It was a long difficult process of making the clay work ‘Charlie Brown’. First, I sketched the original ‘Charlie brown’ in my artwork. Then I start to add details, accessories which turned him to a punk style. After sketching I was allow to start making it with clay. I started from the bottom building up. First I used slab method to make a base then I used coils for his legs building up to his body. Then I used coils to make the head separately. Then I started adding accessories on him. I used pinch pot method to make the hat. After adding the accessories, I then carved details on.

By looking at the some artwork that the previous year students made gave me some ideas and techniques to use for my artwork.

My artwork involved making of clay and painting which is a combination of forms. My artwork might relate towards teenagers issues.
